The Australian Podiatry Association (APodA) has released updated guidance on Aged Care Worker Screening Requirements, following the Aged Care Act 2024 and Aged Care Rules 2025. These new requirements have been in effect since 1 November 2025 and apply to anyone delivering aged care services under government-funded programs.

While the guidance is primarily directed at registered aged care providers, many podiatrists working under aged care programs, including Support at Home and CHSP,  will also be affected as associate providers or contracted health professionals. This means the new screening requirements are directly relevant to podiatrists delivering care in aged care facilities, in clients’ homes, or through clinic-based services.

APodA’s guidance provides clear advice on:

    • How the new screening requirements apply to podiatrists

    • Handling sensitive documents securely

    • Practical steps to ensure compliance when delivering funded aged care services

APodA members can access the dedicated guidance page on their website (login required) to get full details.

Compliance with these screening requirements ensures podiatrists can safely deliver services in aged care settings, protects both practitioners and clients, and aligns with best practice professional standards.
