Research from the University of Queensland suggests that online speech pathology programs may significantly improve communication outcomes and quality of life for people living with aphasia, particularly those in rural and remote communities. The study focused on a telehealth-based version of the Comprehensive High-dose Aphasia Treatment (CHAT) program, known as TeleCHAT. Research from La Trobe University has explored how generative artificial intelligence (AI) may support communication for people living with aphasia, a language disorder that can affect speaking, understanding, reading, and writing. Aphasia can significantly impact a person's ability to participate in everyday conversation and social interaction. While current augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools provide support, they may be limited when language output is incomplete, fragmented, or contains errors.

Speech pathologists’ minimum wages and classification changes from 30 June 2026

This article summarises key changes to speech pathologists’ minimum wages and classification structure under the Health Professionals and Support Services Award (HPSS Award), based on information published by Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) and Industry Legal. From 30 June 2026, changes will be introduced following a Fair Work Commission review which found that minimum wages for health professionals have been historically undervalued, including due to gender-based assumptions.
